After the 2007 Disability Games in Powell River, the Model Community Project found there were no opportunities for Powell Riverites to participate in disability sports. Thus the Powell River Disability Sport Club was born!
The Club has received an incredible amount of community support via monetary donations, services and equipment. All other needs have been met by volunteers and grants.
The Disability Sport Club is currently promoting a wheelchair basketball team, the Powell River Ravens. Since the beginning of 2010, our team has evolved from a weekly drop-in community activity to an organized family-friendly team with at least 15 committed players and many more drop-in participants. We are a member in good standing with the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society.
If participants meet these 4 minimum skill requirements, they are welcome to join our team! All ages are welcome.
1. catches and throws a 5 foot pass
2. follows direction in a team environment
3. independently wheels one’s own chair
4. has a positive influence on other players and on the team
